Story Board & shot list

Our story board and shot list explain what camera angles/shots we have used, the props we are using, what people are in each shots, etc.

How our music video relates to Goodwin's 6 points.

Genre characteristics:

The genre is Hip Hop and the conventions of a Hip Hop genre music video is usually girls being the dominant, main feature like our music video.
We will be using low/high angles while they are on the tables which is used in Hip Hop videos to give a variety of shots.
WE are hoping to make the location where we are dancing on tables as dark as possible to create the image of a Hip Hop video as they commonly use dark settings.

Visual/lyrics:

From the lack of lyrics as we only have minimal words, we haven't related our lyrics to what you see as the lyrics have no meanings.

Visual/Music:

During the song it has a moment of a fast beat for 3 seconds. We plan to have a flick through of footage which changes at each beat.
Also, when the beat in the song starts we want to change the scene as it shows the change.

Need to sell artist:

Our artists in the music video appear attractive as they are strutting towards the camera and the close-up of the lips in red can appear as sexual by the colour and closeness.

Intertextuality:

It's inspired by Hip Hop artists in general as we want it to show the same conventions.

Voyeurism:

It is pleasurable to watch as it's entertaining to watch people dancing. The close-up of the lips can be enjoyable to watch as it can appear as fairly sexual.

Mise-en-scene of our music video.

Mise-en-scene:

- location/setting
- lighting
- costume
- make-up

Location/setting:

We wanted to film on the roof of the college but the site manager said we couldn't because of safety reasons. Therefore, we to plan film the first part of the music video in college on the stairs near the reception/the corridor outside our classroom.
We also plan to film in the refectory/empty classroom.

Lighting:

Mostly natural lighting maybe disco lights to add in extra effects.

Costume:

The costumes the 2 main people are wearing will be matching (Heels, leggings, hoodies, etc)

Make-up:

red/pink lipstick for the close up of the lips.
Natural make-up for the rest.

Plan of Editing for our music video...

0-0.4
- Close up of Lips only singing the lyrics "Ahh Push It"
0.4-0.7- Zoom out of the second persons lips into a long shot of two artists showing costumes.
0.7-0.23-Walking towards the camera down stairs and the corridor, flashing between artists.
0.23-0.30-Close up of the Lips (repeat of 0-0.4) during this time, close up of faces singing to lyrics "get up on this"
0.30-0.40-Dancing on the tables with low/dark lighting with 5 multi-colored disco lights. Consisting of high and low angles .
0.40-0.44-Slow editing from the first artist to the second.
0.44-0.46-Fast editing, quickly flashing to each artist again but as the lyrics get faster so does the editing.
0.46-0.51-Both artists come together leaning towards the camera. Mid/Close up shot.
0.51-1.00-2 counts of 8 dance routine beginning with the artists backs to the camera.

Conventions Of An R & B Music Video....

Will Smith: Miami...

Conventions...
- beautiful women ( to be looked at, not serving a purpose) - Voyeurism
- cars/boats (expressing money)
- party theme
- wealth
- glamourous lifestyle
- holidays/location
- party/disco lighting
- hotels
- high technology
- women dancers

these conventions are the typical expectations of an audience looking at an R & B music video, therefore when we come to record our music video we will consider these.

Practice Lip Sync Editing...

In this lesson, we used a previous media studies group music video to edit so we can practice using the tools, etc on final cut.
When we were editing, the footage from the recording was out of timing with the song so it was hard for us to get the song and footage in place so we did the best we could to fit it in.

This lesson, we learnt how to mark in and out with final cut. This was good practice for us when we come to editing our music video as we now know what to do on final cut.

We found editing straight-forward and easy so hopefully it will be easy on our music video.

Lip Sync Music Video Ideas...

Possible Locations:
- Roof
- refectory/empty classroom

Beginning:
Close up of fiona's and yasmin's lips while singing 'Ah' and 'Push it' in turns.

When the beat comes in, fiona and Yasmin start walking down from a long shot, strutting.
While strutting, they start lip syncing 'oh baby baby' (roof)

In refectory or empty classroom, fiona and yasmin dancing on tables - low angle/high angle shots.
If in the refectory, camera women gets shots of peoples shocked faces.

Collage of six still shots, leading into each location of live action.

When the main lyrics are on (push it, oh baby baby, ah push it) we would like to have the lyrics appear underneath the footage in a colourful, 80's style.

Costume:

- black leggings
- leg warmers (grey and white)
- heels (black)
- hoodies
